Helzer's novel starts out with obvious literary merit. Most of the story follows the "hero" of the story, a Vietnam vet with a tendency to get himself into a lot of trouble. There's a relatability to the way the character sees the world, and despite Hans' rough approach to the world, he's a man who has been through and continues to go through some pretty startling adventures.
